A Day in the Life of our Program

Walking around camp and hearing the laughter and chatter of our campers, it's impossible not to be drawn into classrooms to sneak a peak at the goings on. The passion and commitment of our staff is wondrous, and the project choices that kids are given are impressively diverse and engaging. So...what happened today?

In Performing Arts, campers from Group Six made bullroarers and rainsticks, which are traditional Australian percussion instruments. Children from Group Five rehearsed their South African drumming and dance routine to Dr. Victor's Kalimba. Groups Three and Four created a storm-sound drum circle and then played percussion games using rhythm sticks. They were quite busy!

In Studio Arts, campers created door hangers out of foam templates. Glitter was literally raining down on the kids as they worked furiously and with glee. They also made seasonal calendars, and some of our campers continued work on collaborative community murals that we'll be hanging in our cafeteria by the end of this week.

In Movement, campers played kickball, basketball, and football. They also enjoyed our jump ropes and parachute games. Girls from Group Five, congregating in the bathroom during a transition, could be heard squealing with delight as they reflected on the fun they'd just had with Narciso. "We had the best time!" they said as they ran past CADC Director, Jessica Solomon, in the hallway.

In Cooking, kids continued with their exploration of color and its importance in our diet. For snack, they enjoyed making "yogurt pies," a delicious mixture of yogurt, cool whip, and fruit frozen into a graham cracker crust. Yummy!

We are also thrilled with Mother Nature, who kept the storms at bay so we could cool off in the pools. Swimming provides a wonderful respite from the sticky July heat!
