Spectacle Spectacular!

CADC campers and staff ventured off-site today for a field trip to Spectacle Island, where they participated in the Jr. Ranger program and visited different activity stations, including learning how to navigate using a compass, searching for sea glass and other treasures along the coastline, and hiking the terrain. Campers earned "ranger badges" as a reward for their fine efforts!

Spectacle Island has a varied history that included farming, a quarantine hospital, a glue factory, resort hotels, and a garbage dump. The island was recently the receiving ground for excavated material from the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel Project. The site is being returned to the public for recreation as a park is constructed over the landfill. We'll update this post with pictures tomorrow, but it was a wonderful and fun-filled day.
