Our travels today brought us to the sandy shores of Walden Pond and Lake Cochituate, the perfect places to be on a gorgeous summer day. Both sites are run by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and both offer a respite from the hustle and bustle of urban living. The children boarded the buses with great enthusiasm, and returned a few hours later both giddy and spent. One camper ecstatically announced that TODAY he had finally learned to swim, and another reported back that her trip was AWESOME!! We love having the opportunity to take our city mice out into the country; of course, there is much debate at CADC about whether pools or natural bodies of water are preferable. Both campers and counselors seem evenly split, but take the poll to the right and tell us where you stand!
Upon their return, campers had time to enjoy an afternoon of programming. Our youngest campers engaged in some friendly competition by participating in relay races, our oldest campers experimented in the kitchen by making a "raw" chocolate pudding comprised mostly of avocados, and our "middlers" worked on finishing up their passports by drawing self-portraits that will act as their photo IDs. Campers in Divisions Two and Three were introduced to the menu of choices that we are offering next week when we explore South Africa, and they had an opportunity to start signing up for those activities that they find most compelling. It was a full day, but a fun day, and spirits are high. We're looking forward to more of the same tomorrow!
